Dreams from Koumassi
March-April 2020
Don Bosco Orphanage Koumassi, Abidjan, CIV.

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, BaarAfrica launched a solidarity initiative to support Don Bosco Orphanage, one of the largest in Koumassi, one of Abidjan’s most underserved neighbourhoods. The project raised XOF 1,000,000 in a week from private donors and collected essential sanitary supplies—including hand sanitisers, masks, and over-the-counter medicines—as well as generous donations from local chocolate, plastic, and paper factories.

Beyond material aid, BaarAfrica’s Founder, M.C. Camara, led two creative workshops with the children, who had been unable to attend school during lockdowns. Through theatre, storytelling, and art, the workshops offered joy, self-expression, and connection during a period of isolation.

The children’s enthusiasm and smiles were a testament to the power of community care. Dreams from Koumassi not only improved daily living conditions but also restored a sense of hope and creativity. We extend heartfelt thanks to all our donors and partners whose generosity made this initiative possible.
